Engagement Data Retention Policy Update
· 2 min read
Salesforce is implementing a crucial update to its data retention policy for Marketing Cloud Engagement. This change will significantly impact how long you can access subscriber and journey engagement data.
Key Points
- Effective Date: January 15, 2025
- New Retention Period: 180 days
- Affected Data: Subscriber and journey engagement data
- Impacted Areas: Email Studio Reports, Tracking Reports, Tracking Extracts, and SOAP API requests
What's Changing?
Starting January 15, 2025, you'll only be able to access the most recent 180 days of subscriber and journey engagement data. Any data older than 180 days will no longer be accessible through standard reports or API requests.
note
This change does not affect data stored in Data Extensions, which have separate retention policies set by admins.
How This Affects You
The impact of this policy depends on your contract date:
Contracts Dated April 10, 2024 or Later
From January 15, 2025, only the most recent 180 days of data will be accessible.
Contracts Dated Before April 10, 2024
- Before contract renewal: Data retained indefinitely, but only the most recent 180 days accessible in reports.
- After contract renewal: New 180-day retention policy applies.
Action Items
- Export Critical Data: If you need data older than 180 days, start exporting it regularly to an external storage solution.
- Review Your Processes: Assess any processes or reports that rely on historical data beyond 180 days.
- Plan for the Transition: Develop a strategy to adapt to the new retention period, especially if your contract renews after January 15, 2025.
